The Newark Group is comprised of a network of vertically integrated 100% recycled paperboard operations focused in three business units: Recovery & Recycling, Manufacturing and Converting. Our recovered paper operations supply us with substantially all of the recovered paper used in our domestic paperboard mills, which in turn supply us with nearly all of the needs of our converting operations.

Newark Recovery and Recycling

Newark Recovery and Recycling collects, recycles and supplies a steady stream of recycled raw materials to The Newark Group and to the industry, while delivering exceptional service and waste solutions to our customers. As a company with 10 recycled paperboard locations in North America, the quality of our raw materials is of paramount importance to us, and that commitment to quality drives Newark Recovery and Recycling.

Newark Recovery and Recycling has set standards for quality, innovation, resourcefulness, service and commitment that have been recognized by our customers and by the industry. In fact, a respected industry publication rated Newark Recycled Fibers as the #1 recycler. Today, we operate 11 recovered paper plants in every region of the US, collecting, sorting, grading and packing almost 2 million tons of recovered paper annually, and accounting for more than 3% of all recovered paper collected for recycling in the United States.

A pivotal part of The Newark Group, the Newark Paperboard Mills are comprised of 8 mills (6 in the US and 2 in Europe), producing over 500,000 short tons of 100% recycled paperboard annually. This includes specialty folding and laminating grades for consumer product packaging, including clay-coated board. We also produce high-strength grades that are used for the full range of tube and core products, as well as for industrial packaging. And, we produce NewEx® graphicboard, the standard of excellence in graphicboard today.

Newark BCI / Graphic Board

Newark BCI serves the world's coverboard, file, puzzle, game, and associated markets. With converting plants in Chicago, Franklin (Ohio) and Los Angeles, we cover the US with the largest volume and variety of laminated products available today.

With the invention of multi-ply laminating of completed book covers (two panels and a spine joined together in a continuous manufacturing process), The Newark Group began serving the book manufacturer market with this new "unitizing" capability. Initially known as Book Covers Incorporated, and later BCI, this business is now a part of Newark BCI.

Newark Solidboard Products

Solidboard refers to laminated products made primarily from 100% recycled paperboard. Commonly used in Europe where wax-coated corrugated is prohibited due to its non-recyclability, the converted products of Newark Solidboard Products are an ideal solution because of their strength, structural integrity even when wet, and "field to retail floor" functionality. Solidboard packaging is a major product line of our European operations.

We operate 4 converting plants for Solidboard in Spain, France and The Netherlands, where we create boxes and trays for packaging fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and poultry for shipment to warehouses and retail stores. We believe we are the second largest producer of solidboard packaging in Western Europe with annual production of approximately 100,000 tons.
